Brake Dyno

Developing a brake dyno for mechanical engineering capstone class. The goal is to quantify brake pad friction vs temperature characteristics for different brake pad compounds, as well as temperature vs time characteristics for different rotor materials and geometries. Simulated laps will be tested to determine the optimal rotor design and materials. Control algorithms to motor speed and brake pressure are being developed, as well as efficient data acquisition methods for measuring rotor temperature via an IR sensor with a CAN interface as well as braking torque measured through a load cell.
